What you need to know

Teeth whitening in Luxembourg — Dental Med Practice

Your teeth have yellowed over time. Perhaps because of coffee, tea, a former smoking habit. Or simply because enamel ages—and it shows.

Teeth whitening is the most requested cosmetic treatment in the practice. At Dental Med, we offer professional whitening, carried out under dental supervision, with long-lasting results.

No kit bought online. No strips stuck on in the hope that they work. A treatment made for you, tailored to you—literally.

Why do teeth yellow over time?

Teeth do not stay white on their own. Even with regular brushing and a healthy lifestyle, the shade changes. Several factors accelerate this process.

Coffee and tea

among the most common causes of enamel staining

Tobacco

nicotine and tar stain deeply, often noticeably

Red wine

its pigments cling to the surface of the teeth

Natural ageing

enamel thins over the years, revealing the dentine, which is more yellow

Certain medications

tetracyclines taken in early childhood, for example, can cause internal staining

Root canal treatments

a tooth that has had root canal treatment can gradually darken from the inside

A simple scale and polish is sometimes enough to restore a little brightness.
But for teeth that are truly lighter—not just clean—whitening is the right solution.

Practical Guide

How does teeth whitening work?

The principle is the same for all professional methods. A hydrogen peroxide-based gel is applied to the teeth. This gel releases oxygen that penetrates the enamel and breaks down the molecules responsible for stains.
It is effective, it is a proven method—and everything that makes a tooth naturally beautiful is preserved.

Treatment is carried out on healthy teeth. That is why a prior dental check-up is essential before any whitening. We check for untreated cavities, gum irritation, or other contraindications. A scale and polish is often performed just beforehand so the gel works on a clean surface.

Comfort & Results

Why choose custom-made trays rather than in-chair whitening?

Both methods exist. Here is why trays are often preferable for most patients.

Results

What results can you expect?

Teeth whitening does not make teeth pure white. That is not the goal, and it would not look natural. The goal is to restore the shade your teeth had a few years ago. Or simply to remove accumulated stains that dull your smile.

Professional whitening generally makes teeth two to four shades lighter. Results vary depending on the starting shade, the cause of staining, and adherence to the protocol. Depending on each person’s lifestyle habits, the effect lasts from two to five years. Afterwards, simple maintenance using the trays already made helps extend the result without starting from scratch.

Does it hurt?

It is the question everyone asks.

Tray-based whitening is generally well tolerated. Some patients experience mild sensitivity during treatment—to cold, heat, or simply a slight tingling after application.

This is temporary. It disappears within a few days, sometimes within a few hours.
If you already have sensitive teeth, we adjust the protocol—less concentrated gel, shorter wear time. The goal is to achieve the result without unnecessary discomfort.

What you need to know

Teeth whitening in Luxembourg — what you need to know before you start

A few practical points to keep in mind.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure. It is not reimbursed by the CNS in Luxembourg.

Do not confuse professional custom-made trays produced in the practice with kits sold in pharmacies or online. The latter use very low-dose gels, often ineffective, with generic trays that do not fit the teeth well. Teeth whitening is a medical procedure and should not be confused with kits sold online or in supermarkets.

The result of professional whitening is not comparable.
